Each year we invite candidates to register and apply for the award through submitting a statement. The candidate is selected by the Think Postgrad panel from hundreds of applications through our websites.
The criteria for inclusion in the award is that they have already applied for a place for the following autumn semester, and they have received an offer to study.
Some candidates meet the university entry requirements immediately, and their next task is to confirm to the university that they have the required tuition fee and they are eligible to apply for a study visa (if that is required).
Many other candidates receive an offer conditional on their exam results or proficiency in English and Maths. We also welcome these students to apply, but we make clear in the terms of the award that they require proof that they have successfully enrolled onto their course.
We usually open the award to applicants in the spring semester, when the vast majority of candidates are receiving their offers. The award is announced in October.
The scholarship is awarded to a student with an unconditional offer to study a full 180 credit master’s degree course at a UK University.
Evidence of this is confirmed with an official proof of admission from the university.
While we recognise that this money could make a significant difference to the candidates, we still require applicants to have the ability to enrol on their intended program regardless of the £5,000.
In this way we exclude students that ‘need the money first’ before they start applying for a course.
The scholarship shortlist is considered on merit, using the submission of a statement explaining the student’s academic journey and their aspirations for the future. The Think Postgrad judging panel looks for evidence of both achievement and ambition.
We expect the successful award candidate to be an ambassador for their programme and share their journey ‘from study into work’ with our users, as this matches the values of our brand.
Our award is focussed merit over financial hardship. Many UK universities run tailored funding scheme to support students from under-represented backgrounds.
To maximise visibility of our award among prospective students, we encourage university admissions and funding teams to link to our scholarship page.
The scholarship could be featured in a relevant alternative funding section on university websites or included in funding-related emails.
We also invite universities to link to our the Charity & Alternative Funding section of our Postgraduate Studentships website.
